Yutaro Sakai to Norway
My trip to Japan in a few weeks time is getting me real worked up, as it is closing in. My friend, Yutaro Sakai, from Skull and Sword, San Francisco (www.theskullandsword.com), is coming Sunday 20th. of March for a few days, before we all go to Japan together. Yutaro was so kind as to volunteer to be our enterpreter and guide in his native country. Really thankful for that. I'm lucky to have friends like that!

San Francisco, in the lobby. January 2011
I'm currently sitting in my hotel in San Francisco, trying to put out a few updates before I forget them.
I was supposed to spend this past week editing photos and updating my blog. I ended up not having as many days as I needed, seeing as other things (-and places to be when visiting another city) always turn up. I also have a lot more photos to rummage through than I figured (stuff going back to 2008). So, I'm not even halfway through it all.
But what I can do, for the time being, I'll post a few pictures of work I've done somewhat recently. At least that's something, for now. When I return, I'll be back on it.

Spent the "Holiday" in Stavanger. Bagged a few photos of random stuff. A concert with Kvelertak, among other things. I also snagged a photo of a sticker of a logo I did a long time ago for the band Shot At Dawn. It was stuck to the inside of a rest room door at the club where Kvelertak where playing.

Defenders of the Faith (Flash sheet for Black Pearl)
So the painting I was supposed to do for Black Pearl's new shop sure took it's time. I sat down, and started drawing what I was gonna paint, at five in the afternoon, Tuesday. I already had a rough idea of what imagery I wanted to put on there. I had decided on making a big sheet of flash, bigger than standard sized flash. This was 20" x 16"/50cm x 40cm. I wanted to keep the overall look of each piece pretty simple, more close to traditional. But eventually I kinda lost track of keeping it really simple and made certain things more detailed than first planned. The whole project, drawing, planning certain stuff and then painting, ended up taking almost exactly 24 hours to complete. I only took breaks for using the restroom and eating breakfast with my girlfriend. So I ended up sitting from 5pm, Tuesday until 5pm, Wednesday. No sleep. And then just in time for a quick shower and change of clothes before heading out to the party. I was actually feeling pretty good (I guess I'm pretty used to not sleeping a given amount of hours every night now, or any at all), except for a cold that has been hanging on for a little while now. Ended up going home before midnight, but it was still real fun to see my closest friends again. Ichibay from Three Tides was also there. Was nice to see him also.

I added a photo of the painting, but taken with my phone, so the quality of the photo is not the best.
I also added a photo of of the moon that was still full at nine in the morning, although the sky was all blue. Pretty fascinating. The moon was lighting up like a sun. The picture is too bad for anyone to see the wonderful texture of the moon, like I could see it. It just looks like a the sun on the photo. Like I said, my camera phone was what I had.
On a separate note, the imagery I put on this sheet is stuff I would really like to do in the future, on skin. Although other versions, of course, so odd bits and ends inspired from this sheet might turn up down the road.
If you live in the Stavanger or Sandnes area, make sure to get your tattoos at Black Pearl Custom Tattoo. Best guys on the planet.
